“Your expertise and connections across the sector was significant in helping us not only to develop a programme that was well received on the day but also in promoting the Scottish sector whilst out in Dubai. All of this has been invaluable in raising the profile of Scotland as a Space nation.
I fully appreciate all your efforts and I’m sure you’ll agree that the day overall was a great success.
I’m confident that your continued contribution will ultimately bring long term benefits for the Space sector in Scotland and help towards our wider trade and investment ambitions.”
Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise

As a result of the UK Space Agency funded Regional Space Cluster Development project led by AstroAgency on behalf of Space Scotland, key recommendations had been delivered surrounding the need for a number of developments to happen in order for Scotland`s space “meta-cluster” to reach a higher level of maturity.
Those recommendations, having been met with acceptance during an industry-wide consultation process, included the formalisation of the voluntary Scottish Space Leadership Council into a not-for-profit legal entity that could move the Scottish sector to the “next leve” of the UKSA cluster maturity model and also the requirement for the country to produce its own Regional Strategy for Space.
The latter would be aligned with the other UK regional strategies but allow Scotland`s space industry, together with partners from academia and government, to focus on the areas that were best suited to the current ecosystem`s capabilities, ambitions and values. It would also allow Scotland to feed into and support the UK National Space Strategy, which was to be released in the same year 2021.
AstroAgency were tasked by Space Scotland and Scottish Enterprise to:
- Collate input into the Strategy from over 50 industry stakeholders from both within industry-led Space Scotland and outside of that group, together with government agencies and academic institutions
- Proofread content from the document, ensuring the document read in a consistent style
- Design the publication, working with key contributors to include imagery and a consistent look and feel
- Promote the Strategy on the global stage to showcase Scotland`s current space sector capabilities, as well as the country`s future ambitions around small satellite launch, sustainability and the pursuit of a more diverse and inclusive space workforce
Following an extensive marketing strategy created by the AstroAgency team, the Scottish Space Strategy was positioned as the focal point of Scottish Space Day at the Dubai World Expo in 2021. A delegation of Scottish companies travelled to meet with investors, government officials in the UAE and attend the International Astronautical Congress.
The Strategy was unveiled during Expo`s Space Week, in front of a large in-person and online audience. The publication of the strategy kick-started a series of sessions that discussed Scotland`s place in the global space sector and desire to collaborate internationally to achieve its aims and play its role in wider UK ambitions.
CNN Interview with AstroAgency Founder and Creative Director, Daniel Smith
AstroAgency`s Founder and Creative Director promoted the Strategy in Dubai, featuring on live television (Expo TV, BBC, CNN) and UAE national newspapers, while the Chair of Space Scotland Craig Clark discussed the importance of the strategy on BBC Radio and in space sector publications in the UK.
